Ana Kuya is the headmistress at the orphanage where Alina Starkov and Mal Oretsev grew up.
Biography[]
When a young Alina asked Ana Kuya about the Shadow Fold, she answered that it had caused her parents' death and was the reason for many of the children at the orphanage. She also explained why Ravkans had to cross the Fold instead of going around.
Later, Ana Kuya tried to scold Mal after he had tracked dirt into the orphanage, but Mal ran away and hid. Ana Kuya implied that he should not run from fights, a memory that Mal later recalls as a First Army soldier.[1]
When the Grisha examiners arrived at the orphanage, Ana Kuya ushered the children into a different room so they could be tested. Mal and Alina had run off together, but Ana Kuya later found them and took them to the examiners anyway.[2]
Personality and traits[]
Ana Kuya is strict and disciplines the children at the orphanage. However, she is also willing to explain things to them, albeit impatiently, and helps prepare them for their future.

Ana Kuya is an elderly woman with short hair. She wears a long gray dress with a belt.
