Kaz Brekker reserves the second-floor parlor for a four-hour game of Three Man Bramble as part of his scheme to break into Cornelis Smeet's house. Kaz is the dealer, Wylan Van Eck dresses up as a waiter, Jesper Fahey is one of Smeet's opponents, and Nina Zenik plays the role of a blonde girl from West Stave. When Kaz leaves, Specht takes over as the dealer and Jesper bets his prized revolvers to keep Smeet at the table while Kaz and Wylan break into his house.[1] Later, Kaz cracks the safe at the Cumulus and retrieves Jesper's revolvers.[2]
Description[]
The floor of the Cumulus is polished wood designed in interlocking starbursts; the wallpaper is cobalt blue and covered in silver clouds. The parlors have blown-glass chandeliers with shell-shaped nodes. Like all gambling dens in the Barrel, Club Cumulus has no windows to allow for natural light, since they want players to lose track of time and stay longer at the tables.
The staff at Club Cumulus wear sky-blue jackets. Champagne is kept in a silver ice bucket and served by waiters. From the second-floor parlor, a swinging door leads to the servant's pantry, which contains a dumbwaiter and a speaking tube connected to the kitchen. Foods served at the Cumulus include oysters and buttered prawns.[1]
