While at the Crow Club, Rotty approaches Kaz Brekker and tells him someone stole a DeKappel from a merch's private residence the previous night. It was an oil painting on parchment of the Shadow Fold.
Rotty says the painting is worth around 10,000 kruge, and the thief had to get past four roving guards, high fences, padlocked doors, and a security system designed by a Grisha Fabrikator.
Kaz tells Rotty he is confused as to why this concerns him to which Rotty replies that he has a buyer lined up who is interested so he wants Kaz to let him know if he hears anything.
Kaz continues to his office and when he enters, the painting in question can be seen hanging on the wall.[1]
Kaz's DeKappel was seen in his office at the Crow Club before he had explosives set up. He took the painting with him before the club's destruction.[2]
