The Grishaverse
The Grishaverse
"The Fjerdans believe all the world is connected through its waters—the seas, the ice, the rivers and streams, the rain and storms. All feed Djel and are fed by him."
Matthias Helvar, Six of Crows

Djel is one of the gods worshiped by the Fjerdans. He is known as the wellspring, and his symbol is the ash tree. Fjerdan burial tradition involves burying their dead so that they might "take root", becoming roots of Djel's tree. The drüskelle believe that Djel's voice can be heard from the sacred white ash tree at the center of the White Island and that Djel anointed the first drüskelle. Some Fjerdans believe Djel, or another Fjerdan god, built the Ice Court.

Matthias Helvar comes to believe that Djel works through the Grisha, although most Fjerdans believe Grisha are an abomination.

The Fjerdan legend of Djel's ash tree mostly comes from the thorn wood tree that is kept in a hidden grove/monastery of the Order of Sankt Feliks up in the mountains of Ravka.
