The Grishaverse

Nadia Zhabin is a Squaller at the Little Palace.

Biography[]

Befriending Alina[]

Nadia and Marie welcome Alina with open arms after her demonstration at the Grand Palace for the King, confirming that she is in fact the Sun Summoner. They escort Alina to combat training, where she spars with Zoya, who subdues Alina two times. After Alina lands a single punch, Zoya uses her powers, which is strictly forbidden. Alina awakens with Nadia and Marie standing over her. They offer to take her to get checked out, but she insists that she can make it on her own.

Nadia and Marie join Alina for dinner, where she is prepared a grand meal to celebrate her victory with the King. Along with it comes an otkazat'sya taste tester. During dinner, they learn that there have been casualties in the war, including 13 Grisha.[1]

After another strenuous training session with Bagrha, Marie reveals that Baghra once released a hive of bees on her to help her summon. Though it may have been unorthodox, it did help Marie learn to summon her powers. However, Alina believes that such tactics won’t be necessary and that seeing Mal might help her more than anything else. Nadia and Marie are intrigued and anxious to meet him.[2]

Winter fete[]

Nadia and Marie help prepare Alina for the winter fete. While in her room, they discuss how Marie panicked and set a boy on fire after he asked to spend time with her. Genya joins them and informs Marie that she’s needed to be fitted for the kefta. After Alina’s demonstration, Marie is tailored to resemble Alina and killed by the Conductor, who slits her throat.[3]

Resisting the Darkling[]

After the First Army raided the Little Palace, Nadia and her brother, Adrik Zhabin, found refuge in the Spinning Wheel. She introduces him to Alina.[4] Nadia is present when Nikolai Lantsov announces his engagement to Alina, and she supports her friend as the new leader of the Second Army. Nadia and Tamar Kir-Bataar also help her practice controlling her powers.

When nichevo'ya attack during Alina and Nikolai's engagement party, and Nadia and Adrik attempt to fight one off with their Squaller powers. As they seek out the tunnels to escape, a nichevo'ya sneaks up behind them and yanks Adrik up by his arm, badly wounding him. Nadia and Tamar carry him out as Alina fends off the Darkling.[5]

Worried about her brother, Nadia tends to Adrik as Tamar amputates his wounded arm in the cave system.[6] They head to Dominik Vertov's fort, where Nadia and Adrik go with Nikolai and Dominik on the Hummingbird. Before they leave, Tamar tells Nadia to come back to her afterward. However, as the crew flies toward Keramzin, the Hummingbird is brought down by the Darkling's Grisha, dislocating Nadia's arm in the ensuing crash. They attempt to escape as the Darkling expands the Shadow Fold. Adrik pushes Nadia's arm back into place, and Nadia finds Tamar behind a shelter.[7]

After the Darkling is defeated, Nadia is present as they burn his body. Now determined to hunt slaver ships, she goes with the crew on the Volkvolny, embracing Tamar as she boards.[8]
