The Pelican is a flying craft built by Nikolai Lantsov, originally built to transport shipments of Zemeni weapons that were being smuggled over the borders. A team of Squallers help keep it afloat.
History[]
After Nikolai finds Alina Starkov and Malyen Oretsev being attacked by First Army soldiers in the woods, he brings them to a barley field. The Pelican floats above them, and they climb into the cargo hold with other Grisha. Nikolai pilots them over the border and into Fjerda, where they enter the Spinning Wheel.[1]
Later, Nikolai agrees to send the Pelican to the orphanage at Keramzin to rescue the Grisha students there.[2] However, a battle breaks out at the Spinning Wheel before that can happen, and people are eager to escape the Darkling's soldiers, riding the Pelican out the hangar.[3]
Description[]
The Pelican is a shallow barge with sails at one end, suspended beneath a huge, oblong balloon. It is larger and less graceful than the Hummingbird or Kingfisher, and is made out of a lightweight Fabrikator-made substance: cured resin reinforced with glass.[1]
