Sankt Egmond, known in Fjerdan as Sënj Egmond, is the patron saint of architects. He created the Ice Court.
Biography[]
Egmond built fantastical buildings such as enormous winter palaces for nobles, fanciful towers, and so on. One day one of his frustrated clients accused him of being a fraud and throw him in the dungeons of the old castle on the hilltop of Djerholm where the Fjerdan queen and king lived. One night a ruthless storm razed the old stone castle and in his cell down in the dungeons, Egmond placed one hand in a puddle of water and the other upon the wall and saved the castle by making an ash tree grow in the center of the castle saving the queen and king and all the castle. Egmond built for them in the place where the castle stood a grand palace that came to be known as the Ice Court with high towers, a glass bridge, and an ice moat and in the heart the sacred ash tree of Djel that protected the old castle.
Legacy[]
For Vinetkälla, Hringsa in Djerholm put on a play called "The Story of the Ice Court", which depicted the tale of Egmond.[1]
