Sankta Vasilka was a weaver who lived at the top of a tower where she worked her craft. She is the patron saint of unwed women.

Biography[]

Vasilka lived in solitude in a high tower. One day, a sorcerer came to discover the secret behind her beautiful tapestries and steal her secrets. He lied to her father, saying he would like to speak with her in hopes of marriage. However, Vasilka never answered his questions directly, only asking him about things such as colors and quality. In frustration, the sorcerer demanded her hand in marriage so that they may rule those lesser than them, or else she would be thrown out of the tower. However, whilst they were talking, she weaved golden wings for herself. To answer him, Vasilka jumped out the window wearing her wings and flew away, never to be seen again. Once he threatened to push her from the tower, she donned the pair of magnificent wings she had been constructing and soared away.

Legacy[]

It is said that Vasilka became the first firebird.
