Season 2 of the Netflix fantasy series Shadow and Bone was renewed for an 8-episode season on June 7, 2021.^[1] It was released on March 16, 2023.^[2]

Synopsis[]

A beacon of hope to some and a suspected traitor to others, Alina is determined to bring down the Shadow Fold and save Ravka from ruin. But this time, General Kirigan is backed by a terrifying new army of seemingly indestructible shadow monsters and fearsome new Grisha recruits. To stand a fighting chance against him, Alina and Mal must rally their powerful new allies and begin a continent-spanning journey to find two mythical creatures that will amplify her powers.^[3]

Production[]

On June 7, 2021, after being watched by more than 55 million member households in its first 28 days, Shadow and Bone was renewed for an 8 episode second season.^[1]
On August 5, 2021 it was announced that the scripts were written and heading into production.^[4]
On September 2021 Leigh Bardugo announced that casting had begun for the new characters of season 2, namely Nikolai, Wylan, Tolya, and Tamar.^[5]
On December 7, 2021 Bola Ogun shared an image of the finished script written by Eric Heisserer on her Instagram account. She announced she would be directing this season.^[6]
On December 17, 2021 Leigh announced that Nikolai Lantsov and all the other major characters had been cast and filming would begin soon.^[7]
On January 13, 2022, it was announced that the series began production. In addition, Lewis Tan, Patrick Gibson, Anna Leong Brophy and Jack Wolfe joined the cast as series regulars while Danielle Galligan, Calahan Skogman and Daisy Head got promoted as series regulars.^[8]
- Bola Ogun, Laura Belsey, Karen Gaviola and Mairzee Almas will direct the upcoming season,^[8] which is expected to follow Siege and Storm.^[9]
Filming took place between January and May 2022.^[9]
Joseph Trapanese was announced to return to compose the soundtrack for this season.^[9]
On June 6, 2022 it was announced that season 2 had wrapped.^[10]
