Tante Heleen was the owner of the Menagerie, a prominent brothel in Ketterdam.
Biography[]
Inej's indenture[]
Tante Heleen calls Inej to the Menagerie with a job offer and reminds Inej that Kaz still owes five more installments before Inej is truly free of the Menagerie. The Crows have some business across the water, far east, but Inej can't leave Ketterdam without Tante Heleen's permission. In order to leave, Inej must be paid in full, however, Heleen isn't interested in money. She writes down a man's name and address and tasks Inej with killing him. She claims that he's a slave trader who won't sell to her. Should she succeed, Inej will be freed of all debt to the Menagerie.
Kaz enters Tante Heleen's office and reveals that he intends to take Inej with him to cross the Fold and that when they return, they'll have the money to pay off Inej's indenture. Until then, Kaz offers the Crow Club as collateral.[1]
Death[]
Pekka Rollins killed Tante Heleen and framed the Crows for her murder sometime before they returned to Ketterdam. Because she held the deed to the Crow Club, the building and its workers then became his, and Rollins turned the club into a new place named the Kaelish Prince.[2]
Personality and traits[]
Tante Heleen was manipulative and calculated. She nearly tricked Inej into killing the very same man she and the Crows would need in order to cross the Shadow Fold.

Tante Heleen was a young woman with fair skin, blonde hair, and hazel eyes.
