Trassel was Matthias Helvar's isenulf companion. Matthias called him Trass.
Biography[]
Like all isenulf, Trassel was bred by a family near Stenrink for the drüskelle. When Matthias Helvar was twelve, he chose Trassel as his companion.
Matthias, who did not get along with the other drüskelle, did not join the other boys in grabbing for the pups. Instead, he went to the kennels at the back of the barn, where he saw a slightly older wolf in a wire cage in the corner. The wolf growled at Matthias, and the breeder told him that he had escaped when he was a pup, made it across two miles of ice fields, and was cut up by a kid with a broken bottle. She said he did not like people, and because he was getting too old to train, they would have to put him down.
Matthias opened the cage and the wolf violently bit his forearm. However, Matthias held the wolf's gaze, and after a moment the wolf released him. Matthias declared Trassel his isenulf, then passed out from blood loss. He named him Trassel, meaning "troublemaker" in Fjerdan.
When Matthias was presumed dead after the shipwreck, in accordance with drüskelle tradition, they took Trassel north to the ice, where he would be unaccepted by any pack.[1]
King of Scars[]
Trassel had been attempting to keep the other wolves away from the water contaminated with jurda parem. When several wolves attack Nina Zenik, Trassel knocks them off her and walks towards Nina. However, Hanne Brum arrives, and Nina tells Trassel to run.[2] She later puts out kitchen scraps in the hope that he might return.[3] Nina once spots Trassel in the woods, herding the gray wolves away from the river, but leaves him alone.[4]
After Nina leaves the Wellmother to die and turns to escape, Trassel hunts the guards that would have followed her. He leaves their bloodied bodies in the snow and walks away, calling to his pack.[5]
Physical description[]
Trassel is a white wolf with blue eyes. He has a long scar across his muzzle, which cuts across his right eye and changes part of the iris to brown.[1]
