The White Cathedral is a massive underground cave that has been converted into a church, where Alina and her followers reside during the beginning of Ruin and Rising.
History[]
The White Cathedral is part of a network of tunnels running below Ravka. There is a story that the tunnels were formed by a monster called Izumrud, a great worm.[1] There is a superstition that the worm still resides in the tunnels. These tunnels connect the White Cathedral to many points in Ravka, including Os Alta.
Description[]
The White Cathedral is made of alabaster and has a large cavern as its main room, with a balcony overlooking it. From there, it spirals out through a network of tunnels and caves that make up other rooms. There are flowers carved into the ceiling and paintings of Saints on the walls.
The White Cathedral is cold and damp. Toadstool and night flowers grow along the walls. The kitchens, known as the Kettle, are the only warm place in the White Cathedral. It has stone hearths and flues that connect to the surface.
There are also archives in the White Cathedral. The archives house ancient texts and manuscripts, though many are in poor condition due to the damp underground.[2]
